This gallery, located at the Bierzo School Mine, is used to carry out real scale tests of fires in subterranean spaces such as mines, tunnels, and others. The gallery is placed in a branch of an old coal mine, it has a section of 10 m2 and is 100 m long. The gallery is equipped with a regulable ventilation system and a complete system of control and data acquisition with more than 70 measuring points.

The roadway is used for the research linked to fires in underground spaces, for example as the characterization of fires and its development, its effects on ventilation and the effects on the structural and functional components.

A 4 MW gas burner, remotely controlled, is used as a heat source. Pools of diesel oil or heptane are also used depending on the type of test.
