OVERVIEW

ADRIS "Advance Drivage and Roadheading Intelligent Systems " is a research project funded by the
EU-RFCS programme, which main target is to increase the efficiency of the preparatory works needed
to open new exploitation areas in coal mines.

The project has the participation of some of Europe's best recognized names in the coal mining industry.

Project Objectives

  • Incease the efficiency of excavation by developing novel techniques and control strategies
  • Develop sensors and software for automatic extraction of the geological characteristics of the face
  • Increase the efficiency of the excavation
  • Decrease the wear and tear of machinery through smart control algorithms.
  • Develop automatic guidance and steering systems for cutting machines.
  • Assess the feasibility of novel non-conventional excavation
  • Develop practical strategies for designing, driving and supporting coal face headings
