Activity:  Engineered barrier Emplacement Experiment in clayish formations - EB
Descripción:  The Barrier Emplacement (BE) project started in the year 2000 at the underground laboratory of Mont Terri (Switzerland). The objective of the project is to demonstrate a new concept in the field of engineered barriers for the underground storage of radioactive wastes using compactec bentonite blocks and a granular material made from bentonite pellets.

Activity:  Thermal Buffer Test - TBT
Descripción:  The experiment consists of the installation of two electric heaters in a single vertical shaft excavated in granite, and surrounded by a bentonite barrier, with the aim of checking the behaviour of that barrier at high temperatures.

Activity:  Engineering studies and demonstrations of repository designs - ESDRED
Descripción:  The objective of the ESDRED integrated project directed by ANDRA (France) is to demonstrate the technical viability at the industrial scale of the engineering aspects related to the building, operation and sealing of a deep geological storage site for highly active radioactive residues. The Spanish participation in this project is focused on the development of the gallery sealing systems using low pH sprayed concrete plugs. www.esdred.info

Activity:  Ventilation test in clayish formations - VE Experiment
Descripción:  To observe and analyse the desaturation-resaturation processes in clayish rock formations caused by gallery ventilation and their impact on its mechanical, hydraulic and thermal properties. The assay is performed in a 1.2 m micro tunnel at the Mont Terri underground rock laboratory (Switzerland).

Activity:  Installation of an automatic piezometric monitoring network at El Cabril (Spain)
Descripción:  Installation of an automatic piezometric network to monitor the level of subterranean water at the repository station for medium and low activity radioactive waste located in El Cabril (Córdoba).

Activity:  Backfill and Plug Test - BPT
Descripción:  Full scale test of different gallery backfill materials, compacted “in situ”, along with a gallery sealing plugat the Äspö underground laboratory (Sweden).

Activity:  Heating test in clay formations - HE Experiment
Descripción:  To analyse the response of a clay-type rock formation from the thermo-hydro-mechanical point of view, with regard to the thermal impact of a radioactive waste storage.

Activity:  Hydrogeological tests at the FEBEX project
Descripción:  Conducting, documentation and preliminary interpretation of the tests of a hydraulic characterisation campaign conducted in the FEBEX tunnel of the underground laboratory of Grimsel (Switzerland.

Activity:  Experiment for underground heating in the Meuse/Haute Marne
Descripción:  Study for the experiment of heating in the ANDRA´s underground laboratory in Meuse/Haute Marne (France)

Activity:  Sampling of diffusion in clay formations
Descripción:  Chambers for diffusion test and water sampling in clay formations (DI-B Experiment)

Activity:  Gas migration test in clay buffer (GMT)
Descripción:  Experiment to determine the permeability to gas of a filling material composed of sand and bentonite, in an underground store for low and medium activity radioactive waste.

Activity:  Piezometers for measurement of pore pressure in clay
Descripción:  Testing and validation of piezometers installed in probes with little diameter for the measurement of pore pressures in clays.

Activity:  Full scale engineered barriers experiment in crystalline host rock - NF-PRO / FEBEX / FEBEX-e
Descripción:  The FEBEX project entails the thermal simulation, at real scale, of the Spanich concept of repositories of geological storage of highly active radioactive wastes in a granite formation to demonstrate the viability of the design and validate and improve existing prediction models for thermal-hydro-mechanic processes characteristic of this type of deep rock storage.
